02/04/2012 - Revised fares from 18th April 2012
Bus operators have been put in a difficult position by a Government decision to reduce the Bus Services Operators Grant (BSOG) by 20% in April. For Finglands this means a direct increase in excess of £100,000 in the duty we pay for our fuel.
This comes on top of increased prices for fuel itself and a further £100,000 a year reduction in the payment Finglands receives from local authorities for operating the Concessionary Travel Scheme, which gives free bus travel for pensioners and the disabled together with a half fare for children. We are working hard to reduce our fuel consumption and costs through rationalising routes and training drivers in Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving (SAFED). This has seen a real reduction in our fuel usage but we simply cannot absorb this further reduction in funding.
As a direct result of the reduced funding and ever increasing costs we are forced into increasing our bus fares from Wednesday 18th April 2012.
All adult single fares will mostly increase by either 10p or 20p. Child single fares will continue to be half the adult single fare.
Our Inner Zone weekly ticket will increase to £7.50 and the Outer zone to £10.50.
The Finglands day ticket will be £3.40.

We understand that this increase comes at a difficult time for our customers. At Finglands we continue to offer excellent value for money and our tickets continue to be the most competitive available.
